OT: space shuttle

Mike, the space shuttles only landed at Edwards AFB, Kennedy Space Center, and once at Northrup Strip (White Sands). Groom Lake was never designated a contingency landing site for the space shuttle, but it was available in the 1960s as a contingency landing site for the X-15 rocket plane during launches from the Delamar Lake area. If the X-15's engine had shut down early, the pilot would have been able to land at Groom Lake. The three X-15s made numerous emergency landings at other lakebeds (Mud, Delamar, Cuddeback, etc.), but none at Groom.
