I couldn't find any data going back that far. Gary mentioned previously that the all-time low, or since at least like 1920, for a February in nearby Caliente, NV was -18. Quite a difference from -30. It never really occured to me to make this an open investigation of sorts. Not to discredit Chuck Clark per se, but more or less to see if the specifics are in fact possible and could have definitively occured. I'll make some inquiries elsewhere and post my findings.
