All true except the SRB's continued to burn until exhausted and then fell into the sea and were recovered by one of NASA's ships. My vantage point was further south and I got a clear view of the trajectory of the SRB's.

A very small fact not readily known is that the astronauts were found with water in their lungs indicating that at least some were still alive when they went in the water.

Another small fact is some of the navy divers found the remains of a Sov bomber (Tu-95) during the search.

Apparently since NASA continued the intense production pressure even after both Orbiter disasters leads me to believe that neither event really changed the over-riding "launch on time" culture at NASA.
