Not to mention the whole left by the deactivation of the SR-71... Yes, we have satellites that can see more than the SR ever could -- but we don't have them everywhere, and they're certainly not rapidly deployable to new hotspots.

Today many of the blackbird's missions may be completed by UAVs, but do you guys really not think we had some kind of stopgap between the SRs mothballing and the advent of the modern UAVs?
