I was recently asked if Area 52 was in fact the official name of the Tonopah Test Range (TTR). A Yahoo search came up with the attached official DOE report from 1996, that refers to Area 52 "approximately 27 miles north of the northwest corner of the NTS." That spot is located in Cactus Flat, about halfway between TTR and Cedar Pass, or a couple of miles NE of Mellan.
So it seems that at least back then Area 52 was an official designation for the TTR area.
