Yes, the tif file is VERY large. I recommend copying it to the HD first. That cuts down the load time quite a bit. For reference, I was able to open the tif on a 2.2GHz dual-core laptop with 4GB in Photoshop. Paintshop, which I use most of the time, choked on the file.
