When the US was actively engaged in "nation building" Davis-Montham AMARC (previously MASDC for Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center) was the place the CIA/DIA/NSA drew on to get the A-26's, T-28's, A-37's, C-47's, C-130's, and C-119's that were used in the clandestine ops all over the world. I used to drive by Southern Air Transport every day to go to work, and wondered how such a no-name carriers could affort such a fleet of shiny white C-130's. It was found out later that SAT was the follow-on to Air-America. It seems the hazy grey of aircraft ownership still exisits in the Janet fleet, are they USAF, or NSA, or privately held? I'm sure the fact that the government regulates and issues liscenses to aircraft and air carriers would not lend itself to the idea that they would manipulate ownership to assist covert ops. The only thing that's not for sure in every case, is if it was an approved op, or was an individual using his knowledge and contacts to make a buck.
