Dugway is a true "hell hole". I spent many months there at various different times in the late 90's and early 80's. Our USMC HAWK unit would go there for live fire drills. I remember digging a hole for a tent support and hitting a canister. The canister was punctured. We were quarantined and told we may have hit some type of gas from many years ago. It was only a spray paint can. NBC team said there are so many canisters of gas out on the range that never exploded. The NBC team also said that they don't even have an idea what some of the gases are or what affects they will have if exposed to. The only good memory was when we would drive up in our USMC trucks with the pallets full of cases of beer. The beer definitely made the "hell hole" more tolerable.
