These clouds for between 40 to 50 miles up, they are so high they are still visible at night, recently there has been an increase in the sighting of them. Some say they are created by the exhaust of the space shuttle and other larger rockets. However there aren't that many launches and I am wondering if there is a more frequent flyer that hangs out at this sort of altitude?
