Monitoring the airborne radiation certainly is a good thing, but as a part-time resident of Rachel I am much more concerned about radiation in the ground water. There are areas, I believe on the north or west side of the NTS, where a few years back the radiation in the ground water suddenly started showing very pronounced "unexplained" spikes.

As it turns out assumptions, really only un-educated guesses, were made at the time about the travel rate of ground water. As we know now these guesses were wrong by several magnitudes, especially with the increased rate at which we are tapping into the water table all around the NTS.
