Sand storm my left foot, that's a Haboob! I was on tour with Lollapalooza in 1996. We were at Compton Terrace outside Phoenix when a haboob rolled thru without any notice. Scary as shit! I hate to use lowbrow language but I can't describe it any other way! It ruined a lot of our equipment but the show always goes on! A haboob was also partially responsible for the failed hostage rescue in 1980 because some of the Sea Stallions had to abort due to flying thru it. Attached is a very good short read of "Operation Eagle Claw" by Mark Bowden (Black Hawk Down). History / Nat Geo should do a show on that!
