in checking your reference to the runways on the lakebed i found something unusual. if you go into google earth, turn on the historical views, and then setup through them you will see something quite odd. originally there was an east/west runway north of the diagonal (SE-NW) runway; as time progressed it appears they let it degrade and finally removed it. a new east-west runway appeared in the 28Jun09 view that crosses the diagonal (SE-NW) runway forming an "X". ok, i can buy that. what i cannot buy is that in the 24May10 view neither of the east-west runways appear? my guess is that the date is wrong for the 24May10 view; does anyone have any idea what might be going on? i haven't checked the main base details on the 24May10 view yet to see if progress on changes there is also out of order....?
