Not so sure if there's any truth in the matter but I read on a commercial aviation forum that a TWA MD-80 was forced to make an emergency landing at Groom in the mid 1990s. The passengers allegedly were taken to a hanger, fed box lunches, were treated very kindly and cordially by base personnel, and were FORBIDDEN to take any kind of photos. The aircraft was reportedly repaired, passengers boarded, and took off.
