Andre' may well have this one right. The helicopter that landed in the compound at Son Tay wasn't so much crashed as it was landed hard & fast in a space that was so tight that damage to the rotors was inevitable.
In the case of the current raid, my guess is that the helicopter was some variant of an MH-60 with a lot of bolt-on LO mods; it's even possible that these mods were designed knowing the helicopter would be left behind. In any case, it's likely that the materials & shapes used were of a sort that wouldn't represent anything new to anyone who gets to pick through the wreckage. Just speculating.
