Copper Canyon Question

Something like 30 years ago a friend who was high in Lockheed at the time suggested that an aircraft might be able to fly around the world in three legs at hypersonic speed. He also nodded towards a building and said 'that's where we did it.' The project was in competition with a Convair proposal. It seems that he was referring to Copper Canyon. As Groom Lake would be the probable location for testing is there anyone who has any information about possible testing of Lockheed hypersonic aircraft about 1982-83 at Groom Lake.

This is not a question about the later DARPA 'Copper Canyon' study.
