You need to think in terms of disruptive technologies that will change the status quo completely. Your thinking of China and the USA in terms of separate entities vying for resources and domination of roles as superpowers. I think what the series of north African revolutions have shown us is that the global networking of humans is having a more profound effect than ever anticipated. Threats will continue to dissipate at an ever accelerating rate, while advances in technology will eventually render capitalism and the conflict over resources obsolete.
