Hi folks You might of seen a special operations mission to familiarise the group to SF Ops in Afghanistan. Just so happens i was monitoring British SBS forces doing HALO drops on a nearby deployment airfield, a few weeks before they were deployed into Afghanistan... Richard C
Nevada's Landscape is very much similar to 'some' parts of Afghanistan.
Should of stuck around for a while and see what they had planned. If any kind of HALO/HAHO drops were conducted, it is possible you saw the deployment practicing for the 'then' coming sorties into the country.
Then, mysteriously, one morning a 100 strong SBS/Marine force were on the ground at Baghram AB, near Kabul, with the northern alliance fighters wondering how the hell they got there without them knowing...as they had all passes covered so there was a possibility they did a HALO into the base...that night...
