When i saw the post on MP.net yesterday i guess i had much the same reaction as you, as i live close by also, and immediately turned to my better half and suggested a trip to Macchrihanish!
On one of his other posts, the guy who has done this research suggested another west-coast airfield with secrets...which made me think of Prestwick also (i'm about 10-12 miles from there). It would be the only logical choice, because of its long runway; and there is a lot of USAF activity there every week with transports and tankers passing through.
Strange to think that something from Palmdale or the likes has possibly ended up so close to our quiet little corner of the world eh?!
