Quite possibly the interest is less in the MIG and more in what damaged it. How a weapon system works in combat is VERY useful, especially if you have to face that very same weapon in the near-term. A lot of battle-damaged equipment was brought back from various wars just to analayze how effective the bad-guys weapons were. The bad guy (and good guy) hits on the M1A1's in Desert Storm were of EXTREME interest to the people who made them. Quite possibly all the rest of that MIG was discarded except for what was of interest, unless spare parts were stripped for RED HAT use.
