The MiG-29 certainly has its limitations in terms of range and outright horsepower (when compared to the F-15), however it is extremely manoeuverable and has some systems such as IRST which, when combined with a helmet mounted sight and the R-73 & R-77 missiles, would be of much interest to the US.
