Regarding Mach 18, I'm assuming you were referring to the missile, not the special B52. The Nasa X43a is targeting Mach 7 and Mach 10, and if I recall correctly, the X43 hasn't been much of a success.
I guess the other question that comes to mind is the fuel boiling at 68000ft. I know the U2 uses a special fuel to get around this problem.
