Oh yes, lots of Black Widows, especially this year. They like to sit under overhanging surfaces. Around my trailer and well house I must have killed close to 20 this year alone.

Another threat, and probably the single most serious threat to people visiting the area are cattle. No, they don't train attack cows at Area 51... But this is open range, and every year there are several accidents of people hitting cows on the highway, mostly at night. I saw one such accident years ago, when a pick up truck coming the other way on 375 hit a cow in his lane. Fortunately no one was hurt. The first thing the driver said was that he was going the speed limit and that the rancher had to pay for his damage. Wrong and wrong! 70 MPH is way too fast at night on hwy 375, especially with oncoming traffic, and if you hit a cow you pay the rancher for his loss.
