We (COA) probably have 15 or more routes between SFO and IAH with route selections based on weather, jetstream and cost. Civil use of military airspace is always ongoing and various levlels at a series of meetings. I would'nt rely heavily on the charts available for public reference to determine availability. They require human updating and precise communication is essential. Moreover, at least 2-hour notification is required for fuel planning purposes. Most short-cut routings occur on a tactial basis depending on military requirements. One exception is during holiday periods when large blocks of military airspace are made available for civil use. These usually do not include NTTR, but are more common for White Sands, NM and maybe portions of R2508 (Edwards, CA Complex).
