I always assumed that the intended mission of the F-117 was penetration of Warsaw Pact airspace in the event of a 1980s Soviet invasion of W. Europe. Has anything been written of plans for basing the F-117s in Europe. I assume they would have deployed to RAF Lakenheath or a similar base in Britain and then made raids into DDR/Poland/western USSR with aerial refuelling. No need to base them in W Germany, so close to the Front and expose them to attack. Was any work undertaken to plan for such deployments, either at Tonopah or in Britain? What say you, F-117 experts?
