That is about an 8 hour drive from Reno to LV via Rachel/HWY 375. I recommend a stop at Rachel. Then stop at the top of Coyote Summit and do the short hike to the top of the hill south of the highway for a birds eye view of the Tikaboo Valley. Continue east across the valley and stop at the Black Mailbox. If you have time, drive down the road past the mailbox to Groom Lake Road and right to the gate. Back track on Groom Lake road to Hwy 375 and continue over the pass to Ash Springs (intersection of highways with trees). Take a dip in the springs or have your photo taken by the many stickered ET Highway sign. Don't expect anything but beautiful and lonely desert scenery including the Joshua trees that always remind me of an army on the march (think Lord of the Rings). By day the vistas are impressive; by night, stop at the mailbox, shut down all noise and lights and listen. It's not hard to imagine you are the last person on earth.
