I also recommend going up 375 then east on Hwy 6 to Lunar Crater and Project Faultless as well. Recommend GPS to find Prog. Faultless though. Always take several gallons of H2O just in case. I always take a shovel and some energy bars too just in case. This is totally desolate territory and cell reception is virtually non-existent.
Have fun but do be careful. Also remember this is open range...no fences so please watch out for cows, wild horses, antelope, deer, and all sorts of other wildlife as well! Last time I was up there gas was available in Alamo, then Tonapah, or Ely only. These are roughly 180~225 miles apart so plan accordingly!
The night sky out there is to me probably one of the best reasons to go. Get out in the desert away from any lights...let you eyes become accustomed to the dark and then look up. It will take your breath away...It is so amazing.
