I am not so sure that the trouble would have been from going on patrol, but more of one regarding crossing the line from a non-combatant to a combatant.

Throughout military history there have been a number of chaplains who have served gallantly and been recognized for it.

The clearest example that that immediately comes to mind is Chaplain Watters. Please check out the link for more information on him, as he was truly a rare breed!
