The base has an unnumbered Security Forces Squadron consisting of Air Force and contractor personnel. In the 1988 security handbook, it was called "DET 3 SP" for Detachment 3, AFFTC, Security Police.

At some point, in one of the seemingly endless series of Air Force reorganizations, Security Police squadrons became Security Forces squadrons. Normally, such organizations have numbers but at Groom Lake they tend to lack numerical designations (for example, Operations Group as opposed to 412 Operations Group).
