Yeah, it does look like tracks of some kind, although I think they're more likely to be vehicular tracks.

Unless the lakebed had been 'groomed' (get it?..groomed???....oh never mind!), I doubt they'd taxi an aircraft heavier than a light plane or a plane with big tires (e.g. C-130) over unprepared salt flat. Most planes can turn on a dime and would more likely taxi back down the runway.

Those runways certainly do not appear on the 2000 pics, nor anything previous to that. Almost certainly a new addition.

Now, does anyone want to speculate or comment on the appearance of small and medium STOL aircraft at Basecamp more or less coinciding with new short runways appearing on the Groom Lake bed? Is it a coincidence?

It certainly appears that nothing too large or heavy would be able to use the lakebed runway that goes from south-west to north-east due to Bald Mtn being a few miles from the NE end, and the Papoose Range being at the other.

Thanks to Gary, Zip, Steve, Patrick & Joerg - it's been an interesting week on DLR. This is what its all about.
