Negative, as you can see I took photos of the gate, of them, etc. I'm sure they don't like it especially if you get a good face shot (or one taking a leak)! But it is not illegal. The land is public, under the Bureau of Land Management. Now, if you crossed the border then took photos before they swooped in on you, I'm sure things would be different! If they saw you taking pictures of the Stealth Blimp, I'm sure things would be different and you would have to sign some sworn to secrecy papers.

There are many dirt roads around Rachel, leading into the restricted border. If you follow them on Google Earth, you will see a lot of corrals and watering hole for the rancher's cattle. They are allowed in to tend to the cattle but must inform security as they enter and trip the road sensors, etc.
