Pete - I think you hit on the issue near the bottom of your message. These people that dispense this garbage DO emulate Windows warning messages, etc. You didn't mention the text of the warning message, but did it include the current year (2010) in the software name, for example "AntiVirus 2010". I know that particular one is malware. I know that this is completely off topic, but could you include a screen shot of one of those messages? I also don't think that you got it from DLR, but something on the map page you are loading might trigger what is already residing on your system.

I know that this isn't the answer you want to hear, but in '05 I got one of these that had the year in the title (AntiVirus 2005)and the only way I got rid of it was to reinstall the OS.
