Everyone knows the US acquired the MiG-29s, so why would the air force keep them at Groom if they're not really secret?

It was my understanding that the MiG-29s had been 'inspected' and then mothballed or dismantled, as I think they were the early model 'Fulcrum A' model and would been hideously expensive to keep flying for the air force with little access to spares.

Besides, even if they had been pressed into service as DACT aircraft, they could operate out of Nellis or Fallon and most people wouldn't gve them a second thought after a while.

On the other hand, is isn't common knowledge about the US acquiring Su-27s (if indeed they actually have), so it would make alot more sense to base these at Groom or Tonopah to keep it a bit quiet. Therefore, we have a stronger case for it being an Su-27.
