Well then as a "college instructor" I'd be most interested in your response to the following hypothetical scenario. Suppose that during one of your classes, you were asked a "stupid question" by one of your students (setting aside the old saying that's there's no such thing as a stupid question). Perhaps this student wasn't the brightest of the bunch, but he wasn't trying to be a jerk and simply asked a sincere question. Would you loudly pronounce him an idiot in front of the class? Certainly you might point out why the question may not have been a good one to ask, but there's no need to do it in a derogatory manner. Without even knowing you, I'm willing to give you the benefit of a doubt you wouldn't answer in that way.

All of us are students at some time and we all ask dumb questions. And at other times, all of us become teachers. The mark of a good teacher is being able to deal with those "stupid" questions with grace. An insult only becomes real if someone decides to be insulted.
