With all the construction it would be hard to tell if they were putting anything in the ground. Personally I doubt it, though. The guard shack is manned 24/7. Sensors would make much more sense on the smaller back roads that don't have a guard shack.
There is a scraped area immediately north of the guard shack, but it does not look like they are building anything there. I guess it was mostly used for the construction vehicles, which are almost all gone now.
