Which STS-75 tether incident do you mean? There was the real incident where the tether unfortunately broke and the satellite drifted away, and there was the bogus "UFO incident" where people got all excited about out-of-focus images of floating debris and claimed the tether was being swarmed by alien space ships.

I am always amazed that people can't conceive of all the miscellaneous stuff (dust, ice particles, insulation fragments, spacecraft parts, loose tools, etc.) that float along with our spacecraft. From John Glenn's fireflies to the STS-75 "UFO swarm," the public seems determined to make every bit of space junk into the next ET urban legend.
