You are right, the drifting focus is only a problem right after sunrise, when the temperature changes rapidly. For the panoramas I wrapped the scope in the blue foam stuff that I mentioned earlier. Then I focused only once for the entire panorama, using the checkered water tower as reference. Both tips from my friend Chuck Clark, by the way.
The focus is extremely critical, and I used a clip-on viewfinder magnifier that I bought on Ebay for about $20. Turned out to be an excellent investment.

I have never done any video around the ranges, sorry. Maybe Andre, who taped our Tikaboo Expedition 2000, can help you out? Or Steve Hauser, who mentioned doing long lens video of the base recently.
