I honestly don't know what, if any, guidelines the drivers are given for such encounters. Probably depends on their load, and what contractor they work for. Joe could be right about the guy being "freshly briefed". Most of the time, as you know, they just go about their business and ignore you. Occasionally they even return my friendly wave. Years ago, before they built the double gate, trucks would check in on public land. The guard had to come out on public land to talk to the driver. I have never pushed it, but technically there was nothing to prevent you from peeking over his sholder to get a look at his notes.
