It's a landfill. Similar facilities can be found at other bases, such as Edwards. There used to be a landfill close to the Area 51 dormitories but it was closed down and cleaned up after a major lawsuit in the mid 1990s. Now all landfills associated with Groom Lake are located far from the Main Cantonment area. There is also one south of the base, near the Engine Test Cells.
