I have camped in the area for many years. At the border on GLR, the Back Gate, Cedar Gate, Base of Bald Mtn etc. Sometimes alone and some times with others. Weve had campfires, bbqs, tents, motorhomes, and campers. Never once in all that time have I ever been hassled, or approached by any kind of security. I believe this is a non issue. The only stories ive read about encounters have turned out to be fiction. The Cammos will back up from you. They dont want to interact unless you cross the border.
