Yes, there are a couple of places along Hwy 6 where you can see TTR. Coming from Rachel/Warm Springs you pass a rest area on the right. The road goes uphill from there. Before you get up to the pass there is a large transformer on the left. That is the best view spot from the Hwy. For a closer view, keep going towards Tonopah, then drive down the road to the main gate (turn left at the rocket). Just before the gate, take a dirt road to the left, and hike up the first hill on your right, known as Mt.Diablo. With a 4WD you can even drive up.

And yes, you can drive right up to the old hangars at TTR airport. Pretty cool stuff, and great photo ops.
