I just completed Gene Kranz's book "Failure is not an Option". Great book BTW! He mentions that when the Apollo 16 and 17 crews went out for geologic training he was invited along just to give him a break from mission control. He specifically mentions going to Frenchman Flat which I know is in the area although I'm not sure exactly where. I'm sure many of you are familiar with the area.
