The Groom Lake base commander has historically been a a Colonel. Although the base is very interesting to us on DLR, it is, in the big picture, only a test facility of limited scope (classified airframes and related technologies). Air Force Material Command is headed by a full General, currently Gen. Donald Hoffman.
