There is no question that UAVs are a big part of the projects at Groom but there are also manned programs. There is a follow-on to one of the manned demonstrators that was tested at Groom in the late 1990s. Classified weapons and EW systems are under development. Something was trucked to Groom from California several weeks ago. New hangars have been built despite an abundance of existing hangars at the base. It's clearly a busy place.

That doesn't mean that every new project has to be some sort of hypersonic super plane. There are always rumors but they don't always live up to expectations. A lot of people were disappointed when TACIT BLUE turned was declassified. It just wasn't "sexy." The Bird of Prey looked like a spaceship but had modest performance and marginal handling qualities. At least it looked cool. The Advanced Technology Observation Platform turned out to be a model plane dropped from a Cessna 150 over California City. Not sexy. For hints at what the future may bring, look at current requirements to see what is driving future acquisitions.
