the actual horten 229 has been at the NASM Paul Garber restoration facility for many years, and has not been displayed to the public, and from what I have read there are no plans for restoration and display.

this was a fighter and not a bomber, but the Hortons did have some plans for a much larger flying wing.

the germans probably could have made a one way trip to the east coast with their Fw200's. supposedly some did come very close on one patrol to the NY/Long Island coast.

there was a long string of posts about the mockup and a series of horten RC models on a scale RC model airplance website started by one of the people involved in this project. from what I read this person did a lot of research into the plane, but if anyone sensationalized it is was probably the NG writers and producers. That magazine is not what it used to be in terms of quality/accuracy of content.
