Ummm, that's NOT a V-22 Robert! That's an XV-15 concept demonstrator from the late 1970s - http://history.nasa.gov/monograph17.pdf And, the V-22 did not kill 23 Marines - a lack of understanding of how the aircraft performed compared to a helicopter in auto-rotate/vortex-ring states is what led to the deaths. Re the tests around Groom Lake - the MV-22 has recently been test fitted with a belly-mounted remote minigun for self defense and may have been testing that system in and around the Nellis Ranges.
