Mountainside Hangars

Hello Everyone! This is my first contact with Area 51 enthusiasts!
Here's my first question:
Is anyone familiar with the so-called mountainside hangar? I was in the USAF from 1981-85. There were rumours then of hollowed out mountain hangars at a desert locale, but it was only batwing speak. I know the Swiss and the Swedes have had them since the 1950-60's. Several years ago I saw a overhead shot of a location (I think it was from Aviation Week and Space Technology)where the tarmac seemingly ran into an upgrade and disappeared. The asphalt had black streaks on its surface indicating tire or exhaust traffic. It looked unusual, but the picture seemed to confirm my belief that what I heard back then was true. Has anyone heard of such a feature? That would be an excellent way to keep an asset well concealed! My second question relates to optics.....What is the best visual aid to carry up to Tikiboo Peak to get a good look at the facility 26 miles away? What kind of eyepiece or spotting scope is best? Thank you'll for the info....I look forward to hearing from everyone!
