Similar thing happened to my brother, Maj Duane C Tway Jr. (Ret.) He followed his wife Conni, who was Civil Service, to Davis Monthan AFB in Tuscon after his retirement. Quickly becoming bored he volunteered to give tours at the 'Bone Yard' at Davis Monthan AFB. During one of his guided tours he sees a F4 that looked familiar. Seeing the tail number he discovered it was his old trusty steed from Thailand back in 1968 when he was a GIBS (Guy in the Back Seat), Fire Control Officer. It was quite a thrill for him to find his 'Old Friend'.
