We all know the Cold War's SLAM project was scrapped, but what about the general idea of the engine? The reason most jet engines won't work at high altitude, but this is because they burn oxygen, which in such low air pressure is in much lower quantity. Why not take the results of Project Pluto and apply them towards an orbital launch vehicle?
