I was there about this time last year. Here's one looking down on the bird. Note the square hole in the warhead. When the decommissioned the silo they welded the concrete blast door half open and placed the missile outside and cut holes in it. Then left it there for a month (I believe) so Soviet Spy satellites could confirm the bird was "dead."

I got lucky when I took the tour because there was only 4 people on it. They let a lady every time on the tour "turn the key." After the demonstration I asked the tour guide if I could sit in the seat for a photo!

I strongly recommend a visit if you're in Tuscon, AZ. It makes for a good day along with the boneyard.

BTW, I saw they do a private top to bottom tour for a few hundred bones. As well as a sleep over in the crew's quarters!
