You may not hear it because the airspace around the signs is off limits to all uncleared air traffic. If I'm correct, that sign is from the early 90's when the range was referred to as the Nellis Bombing and Gunnery Range. It's now the Nevada Test and Training Range. Most of the weapons testing goes on at Tonopah Test Range, they just recently were firing some sort of missiles out there (few months ago), I believe they were a variant of the Patriots.
